You know why I don’t believe in God?

Sometimes I question whether it’s because I’ve never been able to bring myself to put that much faith into one thing. I sometimes wonder if it is just my scientific side coming out; I cannot logically explain the universe and its goings on with a religion, but physics will do it for me.

Tonight I realised, though these may contribute to the overall non-faith, it’s not the whole picture.

It’s because I believe in the power of humanity. We don’t need a divine ruler to help us do good, or to be who we want to be. We have the power to change our own lives. It is not our choice to have obstacles presented to us, but it is our choice how we deal with them. We can crumble, or we can thrive. Often the most inspiring stories are born amidst disaster.

I have always liked this quote by Albert Einstein – “Only a life lived for others is worth living.”

In the end, we are all the same. We all have the ability to change lives. And we only get one of our own. You’re born, you live, you die. I don’t believe in the afterlife. I believe that this – this, the 80-90 odd years you are given – this is it. This is when we have to do our good. Life isn’t some practice run, this is all we have. Run it like a sprinter, because you only get one go. Pacing yourself – who cares. We’re not in it to win.

Dazzle the world while you have your chance.

Everyone has the power to choose their own destiny.

Be somebody worth being, change lives, make your own count.

Like I said, this is it.

  1. i don’t think a belief in god undermines humanity or their ability to solve problems and create change in their own lives.

    god bless.

  2. With all due respect, “someone”, I think that a belief in God does undermine the ability of humans to solve problems for themselves or to create their own change. If a problem is solved, should I attribute it to my own power or that of God? And if (as I am led to believe by my Christian friends) we are under the influence of God’s will, or part of his ‘perfect plan’, then logically, shouldn’t all choices we think we are making for ourselves already be predetermined by God?

The foregoing of religion wasn’t the most important point in the blog anyway.

PS. I find it very condescending to throw in a “god bless” at the end of the comment when I have just said I don’t believe in God… it’s like you’re trying to take pity on my poor faithless soul. I’m quite happy being an atheist and will not be converted.

  3. i was wondering if the god bless would be condescending, i was tossing up between that and a smiley face but felt if u were going to send a nice christian msg u might as well do it properly.

i would hate to get into a religious debate as it certainly isn’t an area i enjoy getting into on any level i don’t think religion is something to fight about i just thought i might leave u with some brain fodda which u could take or leave.

the way i see it (if i may be so bold as to assume u might be interested on some level) is that even though he knows what choices we are to make he doesn’t have control over them especially if we don’t want to have his hand meddling in our lives. like watching television perhaps if u have seen it before but it’s nice watching how they got there again anyway.

i know that blog was probably more based on human spirit and the like but i thought u’d mentioned religion a few times and after putting ur thoughts out i thought u might like a few back. again sorry to seem condescending.

    :)

  4. Well thankyou, and I do value other people’s opinions, and am not looking to attack religions which I know form a very important part of some people’s lives.
Perhaps consider removal of the anonymity? Just curious who you are :)

  5. aah no the anonymity is fun i feel somewhat like a masked crusader flying through the walls of the net. and even if i did mention my name did you ever think it might make absolutely no difference to you?

PS. i enjoyed the inclusion of “some people’s lives” it was very clever how u covered all bases there.

  6. Has this blog been rejected or not used anymore? =O

  7. no i still use it tom, i just don’t want certain people reading most of the stuff i write so a lot of the posts are hidden :)
